JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida basketball team opens a two-game home stand Saturday against in-state Atlantic Sun Conference rival Stetson at 7 p.m. in UNF Arena.
The Ospreys (11-13, 5-6 ASun) look to get back on the winning track at home after dropping a pair of closely contested games in their last home stand. Stetson (8-14, 5-6) snapped a five-game losing skid with a win over Kennesaw State in their last outing.
Saturday's game marks the 15th all-time meeting between UNF and Stetson on the hardwood. The Hatters hold a 10-4 lead in the all-time series, but the Ospreys are 4-3 in the last seven meetings. Stetson earned a hard fought 68-64 win in the pairs first meeting this season on Jan. 9 in DeLand and have also captured the victory in each of their last two visits to UNF Arena.
Against Belmont, junior Jerron Granberry led a trio of double digit performers finishing with 12 points including three three-pointers. With that performance from long range, Granberry became UNF's all-time leader in both three-pointers made (172) and attempted (482).
Parker Smith tops the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game with Travis Wallace (11.2 ppg) and Granberry (10.2 ppg) also averaging in double digits. Wallace leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 boards a contest and Jimmy Williams is handing out a team-best 3.3 assists per game. Senior Matt Sauey leads the conference in field goal percentage in A-Sun play shooting 76.7 percent from the floor.
In the first meeting this season, Granberry scored 17 points and Wallace chipped in 16 for the Ospreys while Willie Green posted a double-double (17 pts/10 rebs) to lead the Hatters. UNF and SU are currently tied for seventh in the A-Sun standings.
