CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team ended its two-match weekend trip with a 5-2 loss at No. 36 Miami.
The match was under a weather delay as rain moved through the South Florida area on Sunday morning. Once the rain cleared out, doubles got underway. UNF's wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles allowed the Ospreys to take the match's first point. Daniel Sotomarino and Norbert Nemcsek posted an 8-4 win over Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto at No. 2. Moritz Buerchner and Pedro Davisson battled to a 9-8 (4) No. 3 doubles victory over Victor Mauz and Marco Stancati. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes took the No. 1 doubles match between Beauregard Treyz and Julien Belair and Omar Aly and Wilfredo Gonzalez by a score of 8-4.
The Ospreys' only win during singles came as Belair rallied for a three-set win against Henrique Tsukamoto at No. 4 singles. Tsukamoto took the first set 6-4, but Belair fought back in the second set for a 7-6 (4) win to force a deciding third set. Belair then cruised to a 10-3 win for the third set.
Miami claimed the other five matches, including a three-set win at No. 1. Flores took the first set at No. 1 singles 6-1, but Buerchner fought back for a 7-5 second-set win. However, Flores won the final set 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Nemcsek dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Aly. Sotomarino retired from his No. 3 singles match against Gonzalez, who won 7-6 (8), 3-1 ret. Davisson fell to Soto 7-6 (2), 6-3 at No. 5, while Mauz defeated Leonardo Nahar 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
