Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida basketball team faces crosstown rival Jacksonville at 7 p.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Arena. The River City Rumble rematch game marks the end of the regular season and will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).
The Ospreys (15-15, 9-8 ASun) look to continue their winning ways after earning a pair of home wins last weekend against Kennesaw State and Mercer. The Dolphins (8-20, 6-11) also posted a sweep of the Owls and Bears and have won four of their last five down the stretch.
With a win, UNF would set a new single season victory mark, matched the program record for A-Sun wins and earn its first regular season sweep of JU.
The game also has implications for next week's General Shale Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. North Florida has secured its spot and could improve its chances for the No. 4 seed with a win, while a JU victory could help them claim the eighth and final spot in the postseason event.
Saturday's game marks the 17th all-time meeting between UNF and Jacksonville on the hardwood. The Dolphins hold a 13-3 advantage in the all-time series, but the Ospreys have taken the last two meetings including an 80-58 win on Dec. 3 at UNF Arena. UNF is 0-7 all-time on the road against Jacksonville.
Parker Smith leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game overall and is the league's leading scoring at 17.0 ppg in conference play. Smith, who has reached double digits in six straight games, is coming off a record-setting performance Monday night against Mercer as he scored 46 points including 11 three-pointers.
Travis Wallace (11.3 ppg) and Jerron Granberry (10.6 ppg) are also averaging double figures for the Ospreys. Granberry enters the contest just 7 points shy of becoming only sixth UNF player to score 1,000 points. Wallace leads the squad in rebounding at 5.3 per game.
