PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The North Florida basketball team travels to Pittsburgh for a return to action Saturday at 7 p.m., following a week off for semester exams. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The Ospreys (3-5) had a two-game win streak snapped the last time out dropping an 87-59 decision at No. 21 Minnesota last Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (8-1) claimed their fourth straight win Wednesday night with a 66-45 victory over crosstown rival Duquesne.
Saturday's tilt marks the second all-time meeting between UNF and Pitt. The Panthers posted a 95-49 win at the Peterson Events Center in that first contest on Nov. 13, 2010. North Florida is 0-5 all-time versus current Big East members.
UNF senior Parker Smith continues to lead the Osprey attack averaging 17.8 points per game. He was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording a pair of 20+ point performances and collecting his 1,000th career point at UNF last week. Smith currently ranks second in the country at 4.3 made three-pointers per game.
As a team, North Florida ranks eighth in the country for three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponent's to just 22.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Pitt is led in scoring by Tray Woodall (14.1 ppg) and is outscoring opponent's by over 20 points a game. The Panthers, who are a perfect 6-0 at home this season, rank second in the nation in assists per game (18.7) and are among the Top 10 in field goal percentage (49.4).
The game will be carried exclusively on ESPN3 and available via watchespn.com and the watchespn app. Tim Neverett and Cory Alexander will handle the broadcast duties.
Fans can also follow all the exciting action live on the radio on 1010 XL AM/92.5 FM, The Flagship Stations of the UNF Sports Network, as well as online via the radio network link at www.1010xl.com. Real-time live stats can be found at pittsburghpanthers.com.
