DeLAND, Fla. – University of North Florida volleyball plays its final road match of the regular season on Tuesday when the Ospreys visit Stetson for a 7 p.m., match at Edmunds Center.
“This is another important week,” said head coach Steve Loeswick. “Tomorrow night, we have Stetson, who is an improving team that took a set from Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. We are looking forward to one more challenging road test left in this regular season.”
Tuesday night's match, while also the road finale of the regular season, wraps up a three-match road swing. The Ospreys are an all-time 12-9 in road finales. UNF enters the week having won five of its last six matches and comes off a pair of Atlantic Sun sweeps at Kennesaw State and Mercer last weekend.
With a 50-dig performance last week, senior Nicole Baran set yet another school digs record. Baran became UNF's all-time single-season leader for digs during the match with Mercer. The St. Augustine, Fla.-native entered last week with 463 digs on the season. She finished the week with 513 digs and it is just the third time in the program's history in which a player has tallied 500+ digs in a single season. Baran, who finished last year with 503 digs, broke Tara Taylor's mark of 508 that was set in 2004.
Meanwhile, senior Paige Pridgeon enters the week with double-doubles in each of the Ospreys' last four matches. During that span, Pridgeon's tallied 54 kills and 52 digs in the 14 sets UNF's played.
Stetson hosts three of its last five matches of the 2012 season. The Hatters ended a 17-set shutout streak on Saturday by taking the third set against A-Sun leader Florida Gulf Coast. However, the Hatters will attempt to snap a six-match winless streak as their last win was a 3-0 sweep of Savannah State on Oct. 6. Kaley Melville leads Stetson with 306 kills, while Monique Russell has a 4.13 dig-per-set average. Meanwhile, expect setting responsibilities to be split between Kelli Carneal (4.68 assists/set) and Kayla Weller (3.97 assists/set).
UNF leads the all-time series with Stetson 13-3 and have won the last six meetings.
