JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team returns to Kennesaw State this weekend, as they face the Owls in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament on Saturday evening.
Last weekend, the Ospreys had an up-and-down pair of games, first beating USC Upstate 7-1 on Friday evening, before falling 5-1 to East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon.
The pair of games gave the Ospreys a final regular season record of 7-9-2, with a 5-3-1 mark in A-Sun play, good for sixth in the conference heading into the tournament.
As the sixth seed in the A-Sun Tournament, UNF will travel to face third-seeded Kennesaw State on their home turf. The Ospreys will take a 1-2 all-time record in the Atlantic Sun Tournament to Kennesaw to face the Owls.
KSU is led offensively by Katrina Frost, who was just named to the All-A-Sun First Team and the A-Sun Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. Frost has tallied 10 goals this season, giving her back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons. Frost also scored the final goal in the Owls' 4-2 victory over UNF.
The winner of the match will face No. 2 Mercer in the semifinals. Both the semifinals and finals will be hosted by Florida Gulf Coast, the regular season champion. In the other quarterfinal, No. 4 ETSU will host No. 5 Jacksonville.
The Owls have owned a clear advantage in the all-time series between the teams, claiming a 10-1-1 record against the Ospreys heading into Saturday night's game. Earlier this season, Kennesaw State claimed a 4-2 victory on its home turf, largely on the strength of its set pieces and strength in the air. In that match, three of the Owl's four goals were scored via header. Sophomore Alexandra Herman notched her first collegiate goal against the Owls, then picked up her first collegiate assist on the Ospreys' second goal, scored
Last year, UNF earned a 1-0 win at Hodges Stadium on the strength of a volleyed goal from then-junior Kathryne Husted. Earlier today, Husted was one of a trio of Ospreys honored by the conference, joining juniors Carolina Lencina and Thea Linkfield on various All-Atlantic Sun teams.
