GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of North Florida women's golf team continues its inaugural fall season this weekend playing in the 41st Lady Paladin Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by Furman.
The three-day, 54-hole event begins with opening round play at 9 a.m. on Friday. Second round play tees off at 9 a.m. on Saturday with Sunday's final round scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The tournament will be played on the par-72, 6,266-yard layout of the Furman University Golf Course.
The Ospreys, who have posted Top 10 finishes in each of their first three events, send a lineup consisting of all true freshmen to the Lady Paladin. Tess Huber leads the way for UNF boasting a team best 74.89 stroke average and Top 10 finishes in every event. She will be joined by fellow rookies Mary Rodgers, Kelly Aylwin, Julia McQuilken and Victoria Pitenis.
“The team has been working hard and focusing on individual aspects of their game,” said UNF head coach Joanne Steele. “As a team, we still have work to do to meet our expectations. We are looking forward to competing and putting what we have been working on to the test.”
The Lady Paladin Invitational began in 1972 and over the years many of the most recognizable names in women's golf have claimed medalist honors at the event including Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Sherri Turner, Donna Andrews and Dottie Pepper.
North Florida will be joined in this year's Lady Paladin field by tournament host Furman, rated No. 92 in this week's GolfStat Head-to-Head rankings, as well as Appalachian State, No. 86 Chattanooga, Columbia, Jacksonville, No. 75 Longwood, Mercer, Newberry, NCAA Division II top-ranked Nova Southeastern, Rutgers, Samford, Savannah College of Art and Design and William & Mary.
