JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida volleyball wraps up a four-match homestand and a challenging three-match Atlantic Sun stretch Tuesday night against conference leader Florida Gulf Coast at UNF Arena.
“Tomorrow should be another exciting match,” said head coach Steve Loeswick. “Florida Gulf Coast is an extremely strong team, but we showed this weekend that UNF Arena is a tough place to play. We are looking forward to it and can't wait to go up against the Atlantic Sun's top team.”
The Ospreys have won each of the first three games of their homestand, sweeping Bethune-Cookman last Tuesday and then coming up with big conference wins against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky over the weekend. In each of those three matches, UNF's had three players register double-digit kills. Additionally, four Ospreys had double-digit digs in the four-set wins over Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
Earlier on Monday, Dagnija Medina was named the A-Sun's Player of the Week after hitting .424 and tallying 33 kills last week.
Florida Gulf Coast brings a 12-match winning streak and an 11-0 A-Sun record into Tuesday. The Eagles have not suffered a loss since a 3-1 setback to USF on Sept. 18. Florida Gulf Coast enters the week second in the conference in blocks with a 2.05 block-per-set average. The Eagles are led by Jill Hopper and Olivia Mesner, who are second in the A-Sun in aces and hitting percentage, respectively. Hopper has 27 aces and averages 0.35 aces/set and is only behind Medina in the conference. Mesner is hitting .352 for the season.
The Eagles lead the all-time series 13-2 and have taken the last 11 meetings between the two teams, including a 3-0 match earlier this season.
Match time is set for 7 p.m.
**Tickets for UNF volleyball matches are $5 for Adults, $3 for Youth 17-under, Senior Citizens 55+, Active Military and UNF Faculty/Staff. UNF students with a valid Osprey1 card and children under 2 are free. For more information about tickets, click here.
