Ospreys Swoop to 8th at Isleworth Golf Invitational

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The No. 41-ranked North Florida men's golf team improved seven strokes and two spots Monday in second round play at the prestigious Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
The Ospreys own a 36-hole total of 593 following their day two round of 293 (+5). All five UNF linksters matched or bettered their first round play highlighted by freshman Joe Stepnes' nine stroke improvement.
Sophomore MJ Maguire again paced the Ospreys posting his second consecutive round of even par 72 to finish the day tied for seventh at 144. Senior Kevin Phelan carded a one-over 73 and remains in the Top 20 holding a tie for 17th at 147.
Redshirt freshman Taylor Hancock is tied for 46th at 152 following a second round 75 while freshman Joey Petronio posted a second straight 77 and is tied for 57th at 154. Stepnes heads into the final round tied for 62nd with a total of 155 after his round of 73 (+1) on Monday.
The highly competitive field at Isleworth features 13 of the 15 teams ranked among the nation's Top 50.
Top-ranked California maintained its spot atop the team leaderboard holding a three-shot edge on No. 31 Illinois, 579-582. No. 2 ranked Texas and No. 6 Florida are tied for third at 583 followed by No. 7 New Mexico (584), No. 10 Alabama (588), No. 13 Arkansas (592), North Florida, No. 14 Vanderbilt (597), TCU (599), No. 11 LSU (601), No. 42 UCF (602), No. 40 Texas Tech (608), No. 77 Augusta State (608) and No. 22 Indiana (616).
Cal's Michael Kim tops the individual medalist competition for a second day in a row, holding a three-shot advantage on the field with one round remaining.
North Florida concludes play at the Isleworth with final round action Tuesday. The Ospreys will be paired with the Razorbacks and Commodores starting at 8:00 a.m. off of Hole 1. Fans can follow all the action via live scoring at www.golfstat.com.
