Complete Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team will be competing for a high seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament this weekend, as they welcome USC Upstate and East Tennessee State to Hodges Stadium for a pair of home matches.
While all six spots in the A-Sun Tournament are accounted for heading into the final pair of games, none of the seeds or matchups has been settled as of Friday night's games. Currently, the Ospreys sit fifth in the conference, two points ahead of sixth-place Jacksonville and two points behind fourth-place ETSU.
Last weekend, the Ospreys (6-8-2, 4-2-1) suffered a pair of tough losses on the road, as they fell 4-2 at Kennesaw State on Friday, before dropping a 3-0 decision at Mercer on Sunday afternoon.
USC Upstate (Fri., Oct. 19, 7 p.m.) has struggled a bit on offense this season, scoring just five goals en route to a 3-13 record (1-6 A-Sun). The Spartans grabbed their only conference win this past weekend with a 1-0 home shutout of Lipscomb. All five goals have been scored by different players, while Michelle Calmeyn has also tallied an assist and 36 shots to lead Upstate on offense.
The Ospreys have asserted themselves well against the Spartans in recent years, reeling off five consecutive victories and shutting Upstate out in both the previous two contests. Last year, UNF grabbed a 2-0 victory on the road, getting a pair of goals from then-junior Kathryne Husted.
ETSU comes to Jacksonville on a three-game winning streak that has pushed them to an 11-4 record (5-2 A-Sun). The Bucs are led offensively by one of the nation's top goal-scorers in Ramey Kerns. The junior's 15 goals this year is tied for fourth-most in all of Division I. Sarah Zadrazil leads the Bucs in assists with nine through 15 games.
UNF holds a slight edge in what has always been an evenly-contested all-time series, having won four games to the Bucs' three. In the teams' last meeting, ETSU edged the Ospreys, 2-1, in Johnson City. Then-sophomore Carolina Lencina scored the only UNF goal in that meeting. The Ospreys won the last meeting in Jacksonville, besting ETSU, 2-0, in 2010.
Complete game notes and season statistics are attached. Both of the weekend's matches will be streamed free of charge on ASun.tv and live stats are available at UNFOspreys.com.
