Men’s Soccer Continues A-Sun Play with Split Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team will play two Atlantic Sun Conference matches over the course of the weekend. The Ospreys host A-Sun newcomer Northern Kentucky on Friday night at Hodges Stadium (7:00 p.m.) before traveling to Fort Myers, Fla. to take on Florida Gulf Coast in a road match on Sunday afternoon (2:00 p.m.).
Both matches over the weekend will be broadcast on ASun.TV. In addition, live stats the Ospreys match with the Norse can be found HERE, while live stats for UNF at FGCU are available HERE.
The match on Friday night between North Florida and Northern Kentucky will be the Ospreys' Coaches vs. Cancer Benefit match. The team is raffling off a framed, autographed North Florida men's soccer jersey and tickets for the drawing are $5. The proceeds from the raffle tickets go to cancer research.
Tickets for the raffle are on sale now and will continue until 7:30 p.m. the night of the match. The winner of the framed jersey which is autographed by the entire 2012 men's soccer team will be announced during halftime of the match against the Norse.
North Florida enters the weekend 3-8-0 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The match is just the second home match for the Ospreys since early September. UNF played four consecutive home matches to open the season, but then played six of the next seven matches away from Hodges Stadium. North Florida is 2-3-0 this season at Hodges Stadium and 91-70-13 all-time at home.
Northern Kentucky takes the soccer pitch with a 3-7-1 overall record and a 0-0-1 league record. The Norse are 1-0-1 at home, but 2-7-0 away from NKU Soccer Stadium. Florida Gulf Coast enters the weekend with a 3-5-2 overall record and an 0-1-1 A-Sun mark. The Eagles are 2-4-1 on the road, but 1-1-1 at the FGCU Soccer Complex. FGCU hosts USC Upstate on Friday night (7:00 p.m.) before taking on North Florida on Sunday afternoon.

Northern Kentucky: The Norse wrapped up a brief two-game home stand that saw them pickup a win and a draw. On Oct. 4, NKU posted a draw in their first Atlantic Sun match against the two-time defending champions of the conference, Florida Gulf Coast. Kevin Walker scored the equalizer in the second half. On Tuesday, the Norse picked up their third win of the season by defeating IPFW, 2-0. Brendan Murphy and Michael Bartlett each collected goals, while A.J. Fleak posted his second shutout of the season.
Florida Gulf Coast: Despite holding a 19-5 edge in shots, the FGCU men's soccer team suffered just its second loss in its last 22 Atlantic Sun regular season contests on Saturday night, as it fell at Lipscomb, 3-1, to cap its opening weekend of conference play. All three Bisons' goals came over a 20-minute span in the second half to drop the Eagles to 3-5-2 and 0-1-1 in the A-Sun. FGCU plays USC Upstate on Friday night before hosting North Florida on Sunday.
