CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of North Florida's Sara Evans and Monica Rice have been selected as the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for meets competed Jan. 9-15, the League announced today.
The award is the first of the year for the duo and second of Evans' career at UNF. The accolade marks the first time in Rice's career she has been named Diver of the Week and the second time this season an Osprey diver has claimed the accolade. Earlier this season, Julia Moomaw was tabbed Diver of the Week (Nov. 23, 2011).
Evans posted a trio of first-place finishes to help pace the Ospreys against Georgia Southern last week. The junior recorded a season-best in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.07. She followed that performance with her second season-best time of the meet with a time of 2:25.89 in the 200 breaststroke. She then won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.66.
Rice earned first-place accolades in the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.80. In the 3-meter dive, the freshman finished in second-place with a score of 238.70.
North Florida returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20, as the Ospreys compete in their final home meet of the year. UNF welcomes Florida Gulf Coast to the UNF Aquatic Center for a dual meet slated for 3 p.m. The meet will serve as Senior Day and prior to the meet, UNF will honor its lone senior, Gala Poon.
