JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team kicks off their Atlantic Sun Conference schedule this week with two away games. The Ospreys will travel to Florida Gulf Coast for a Friday evening match before heading to Stetson on Sunday afternoon.
Last week, UNF went 1-1 at the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational in Wilmington, N.C., defeating host UNC Wilmington 1-0 on Friday evening before falling 2-1 to Richmond on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Heather Botelho scored the only goal of the game to lead UNF to victory over UNC Wilmington on Friday night. It was the Ospreys' third consecutive win by a single goal. On Sunday, the team couldn't quite come back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime, falling to Richmond despite sophomore Caroline Lincina's second-half goal.
This weekend, the Ospreys will open Atlantic Sun play with a trip to Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles, 5-3-1 so far this year, are coming off a 0-0 draw at #15 UCF that has garnered them votes in the NSCAA Southeast Regional rankings this week.
Stetson, 1-6-1 on the season, is coming off a 2-0 home loss to Furman. Prior to that, they played in six straight games away from home, managing only a scoreless draw with Gardner-Webb on the road trip. The Hatters are led by senior midfielder Alexis Hermosa, who has four of Stetson's eight goals thus far.
