UNF Bests FGCU, 6-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF (12-4, 7-2 A-Sun) won two of the three doubles matches to go up 1-0 on FGCU (9-9, 4-6 A-Sun) early in the match.
In the No. 2 doubles, Melanie Aguirre and Danielle Day defeated Gyanna Mandic and Morgan Bechtel, 8-2. UNF's Victoria Krook and Melinda Doak teamed up in the No. 3 to drop Bibiana Almeida and Jen Evans, 8-6.
The Ospreys continued their winning ways into the singles matches, winning five of the six. Aline Berkenbrock claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 1 over Bechtel.
Krook shutout Evans, in the No. 3, with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Aguirre battled Bettina Botha to three sets. Aguirre claimed a 6-4 win in the opening set, but fell in the second, 6-2. Aguirre secured the point with a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker.
In the No. 5, Simona Weymar defeated FGCU's Gyanna Mandic, 6-1, 6-4 while Doak grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Almeida in the No. 6
UNF will be back on the court on Thursday, April 7, hosting UCF in a 2 p.m. match at UNF Tennis Complex.
