
UNF Falls to College of Charleston, 4-2

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team fell to Southern Conference defending champion, College of Charleston, 4-2 on Friday afternoon at the Patriots Point Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Ospreys (2-2) got off to a solid start, grabbing the doubles point early with wins in the No. 1 and 2. Sophomore Melanie Aguirre and junior Danielle Day teamed up at the No. 1 to defeat the CofC (1-3) duo, Emma Hayman and Irene Viana, 9-8.
At the No. 2, senior Victoria Krook paired up with freshman Simona Weymar to drop the Cougars' pair of Kelly Kambourelis and Christin Newman, 9-7.
UNF claimed a point at the No. 4 singles as Weymar defeated Katie Lee in straight sets with scores of 7-5, 6-1.
At the No. 3 singles, Aguirre battled Kinsey Casey to three sets. Aguirre claimed the first set, 6-4, but Casey rallied back to take the last two, 6-2, 6-3.
Krook also had a tough three set match at the No. 2. Claiming the first set, 6-4, Krook fell in the second set, 6-2 to Hayman. In the third set Hayman held a 4-3 lead, but the match was called since CofC had already gained the points needed to claim the win.
The Ospreys will be back on the court to open Atlantic Sun action on Friday, March 4 at home against East Tennessee State at 11 a.m.
