JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After a week-and-a-half hiatus, the University of North Florida women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when the Ospreys travel to Bethune-Cookman.
Wednesday's game wraps up an 11-game non-conference slate for the Ospreys. UNF has played seven of those games on the road. However, the Ospreys have won their last two games -- both of which were against non-conference foes. In UNF's most recent game, three players reached double-figures in scoring to guide the Ospreys to a 63-47 win over Jacksonville State in the Comfort Inn Holiday Classic on Dec. 18. Jadhken Kerr hit a season-best five treys en route to a game-best 17 points. It was the second-straight game in which the Ospreys had three players with 10-or-more points.
UNF will be playing its third MEAC team of the season. The Ospreys lost to Savannah State on Nov. 17, but defeated Delaware State on Dec. 17.
Meanwhile, Bethune-Cookman will attempt to break a nine-game losing skid and pick up its first win since Nov. 12. The Wildcats were last in action on Dec. 20-21 at the Hatter Classic. Bethune-Cookman came close to avenging an earlier season loss to Florida Atlantic, but ultimately fell 71-70 in triple overtime on Dec. 20. The next day, the Wildcats dropped a 62-46 game to Campbell. Jasmine Elum averages a team-best 13.8 points per game and leads the team in steals (24) and assists (18).
Bethune-Cookman leads the all-time series 5-3 and won the last meeting between the two teams 60-57 on Dec. 18, 2010. The series has mainly been played in Jacksonville. Wednesday's game will just be the third time the Ospreys and Wildcats have squared off in Daytona Beach.
Tip-off for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., from Moore Gymnasium.
