JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team ends the season with a pair of home Atlantic Sun Conference matches at Hodges Stadium. The Ospreys open the weekend with a match against Stetson on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. before taking on Florida Gulf Coast in the season finale on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
Prior to Friday's match, North Florida will honor a pair of seniors, Julian Botella and Enrique Haeussler, as the match against Stetson is designated as Senior Night.
Botella is a transfer who played for two years with the Ospreys. Entering Friday night's match, he has played in 21 matches with 13 starts to his credit. Despite playing defense, Botella has recorded nine shots, including five shots on goal. He posted a career-high two shots against East Tennessee State and UCF in 2010 with a career best two shots on goal against the Golden Knights.
Haeussler is a two-year letterwinner after transferring to North Florida in 2009. Entering the weekend, he has played in 28 matches with 18 starts to his credit. He has registered four goals in his two year career, including a career high two goals in a match earlier this season against conference rival ETSU. Haeussler currently leads the team in both goals and points. He was a member of the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team.
North Florida enters the weekend after dropping a heartbreaker to crosstown rival Jacksonville, 1-0. Offensively, all six of the Ospreys shots came in the second half as UNF made several second half adjustments. Pedro D'Avila and Nick May led the team with two shots apiece, while Luis Daniel Camejo and Alek Slaveski each had a shot apiece. Camejo and Slaveski's shots each were on goal. Defensively, Federico Bertele took the hard luck loss for the Ospreys, working 90 minutes at goal. The freshman keeper kept the high powered Dolphins' offense off of the scoreboard for the first 72 minutes of the match before a late penalty kick in the 73rd minute by the Dolphins proved to be the difference in the match. The UNF defense aided the rookie limiting the JU offense to just four shots on goal.
Stetson enters the weekend with a 7-5-3 overall record and a 4-1-1 Atlantic Sun Conference mark. The Hatters secured a spot in the 2011 ASun Tournament last weekend after claiming a pair of victories over Belmont and Lipscomb. Stetson enters the match with a six-match unbeaten streak with the Hatters going 4-0-2 in that stretch. In their last outing, Stetson played No. 9 UCF to a double overtime draw (T, 1-1).
Florida Gulf Coast also punched their ticket into the ASun Tournament last weekend and enters the final regular season weekend with a 8-4-2 overall record, including a 5-1-0 clip in the conference. The Eagles bested Lipscomb and Belmont last weekend. FGCU enters the weekend in second place in the Atlantic Sun, but will play conference leader Jacksonville on Thursday night prior to playing North Florida on Sunday.
