
Ospreys to Open A-Sun Play

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team is set to open Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday, Oct. 1 when the Ospreys host Stetson at 7 p.m. UNF will continue A-Sun play on Saturday, Oct. 2 at home against Florida Gulf Coast at 3 p.m. in UNF Arena.
UNF (2-12, 0-0 A-Sun) is looking to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Florida A&M in its last outing. The Ospreys are being led on the season by sophomore Paige Pridgeon with 3.83 kills per set while also averaging 2.5 digs per set. Senior Jessica Catelano is adding 2.19 kills and sophomore Dagnija Medina is adding 1.87 kills while leading the team in blocking with 39 this season. Freshman setter Britt Claessens is tallying 8.38 digs per set. On the defensive side, sophomore Nicole Baran and senior Chelsea Rabe are averaging 3.75 and 2.12 digs per set, respectively.
Leading the Hatters (1-15, 0-1 A-Sun) is Kaley Melville with 2.32 kills per set. Katie DiGirolamo is adding 1.52 kills and Ellen Hawks and Brandy Worlton are each putting up 1.45 kills per set. Kelli Carneal is tallying 7.29 assists and Monique Russell is notching 4.12 digs per set. Stetson fell 3-1 to Florida Atlantic in its last match.
UNF holds the 9-3 all-time record over the Hatters, including two wins last season. In last season's match at UNF, the Ospreys rallied back after dropping the first two sets to win 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10, 17-15). Pridgeon tallied 14 kills and 12 digs. Baran and Rabe also added 12 digs each.
The Eagles (3-11, 0-0 A-Sun) fell, 3-0 to Lipscomb in their last outing. FGCU is being led by Adrieanne McNally with 2.44 kills per set. Jessica Barnes is adding 2.12 kills while Camil Dominguez is posting 8.94 assists per set. Defensively, Holly Youngquist is tallying 3.88 digs per set.
FGCU holds an 8-2 lead in the series over the Ospreys. Last season in Jacksonville, the two teams battled to five sets before the Ospreys fell 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 24-23, 24-26, 12-15). Pridgeon notched 22 kills in the match and Catelano had a career-high 68 assists. Baran had 24 digs.
Single-game tickets for volleyball matches are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17-and-under , senior citizens 55-and-older, active military and UNF faculty/staff. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $3 and limited to one per student.
