
UNF Volleyball Set for UVA Jefferson Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the 2010 Jefferson Cup Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia, Sept. 3-4. UNF will face host team UVA at 1 p.m. on Friday followed by George Washington at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Ospreys will play Liberty at 1 p.m. All matches will be played at Memorial Gym.
UNF (0-3) fell to Morehead State in the team's last outing. Leading the Ospreys early is sophomore outside hitter Paige Pridgeon who averaged 3.7 kills per set during the opening weekend of the season while averaging 3.10 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Jessica Catelano is adding 2.2 kills per set. Sophomore libero Nicole Baran leads the team with 5.1 digs per set while freshman setter Britt Claessens is putting up 8.2 assists per set.
Virginia (3-0) picked up wins over Temple, Delaware and Valparaiso during the opening weekend. Simone Asque is averaging 5.15 kills and 3.23 digs per set. Jessica O'Shoney is adding 2.31 kills per set. A.J. Cushman leads the team defensively with 6.38 digs per set. Beth Wildermuth and Rachel Gray are averaging 6.69 and 4.46 assists per set, respectively.
GWU (2-1) defeated Georgetown and George Mason, but fell to American last weekend. The Colonials are being led by Lauren Whyte with 5.4 kills per set and Leah Hill is adding 2.78 kills per set. Katie Crosby is posting 11.10 assists per set while Candace Silva-Martin is tallying 4.8 digs per set.
Liberty (2-1) fell to Cleveland State to open the season, but picked up wins over Charlotte and East Carolina last weekend. Karyl Bacon leads the Flames with 3.83 kills while Lillie Happel is adding 2.58 kills per set. Jade Craycraft is notching 9.92 assists per set and Kelly Haseman is leading the team defensively with 5.42 digs per set.
