
UNF Volleyball Set for Tournament at CofC

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will travel to Charleston, S.C. for the Holiday Inn Charleston Riverview Invitational, Sept. 17-18 at the Carolina First Arena. UNF will face host team College of Charleston in its first match of the tournament on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Along with the Ospreys and host team College of Charleston, Radford and Central Michigan will also be competing in the tournament. The Ospreys will play CMU at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday followed by Radford that evening at 5 p.m.
Leading the Ospreys (2-8) is sophomore outside hitter Paige Pridgeon with 4.03 kills per set. Senior Jessica Catelano is adding 2.16 kills. Freshman setter Britt Claessens is putting up 8.5 assists per set and leads the team with 11 aces. Sophomore libero Nicole Baran is tallying 3.84 digs per set.
UNF finished 2-2 in last weekend's Best Western Invitational, hosted by the Ospreys. Pridgeon and Baran were named to the All-Tournament team. The Ospreys defeated Chattanooga and Troy, both with 3-2 scores before falling to Charleston Southern (3-1) and UIC (3-0).
CofC (7-4) is being led by Whitney Russell with 4.2 kills per set. Madelyn McGinnis is adding 2.12 kills and Cole Dawley is tallying 9.86 assists per set. On the defensive side, Paige Johnson is posting 3.8 digs per set and Elyse Chubb is averaging 1.02 blocks.
The Cougars hosted the CofC Classic last weekend and fell to Oregon State (3-2) and Auburn (3-0) on the second day of competition. CofC picked up a 3-1 win over Cinncinati on the first day.
The Chippewas (4-5) are led by Lauren Krupsky with 3.81 kills per set. Kaitlyn Schults and Val DeWeerd are adding 2.27 and 2.23 kps, respectively. Catherine Ludwig is putting up 9.94 assists per set and Jenna Cotes is notching 3.23 digs per set.
CMU fell to Creighton, 3-1 and Wisconsin, 3-1 at the Marquette Invitational last weekend. The Chippewas are the only team in this weekend's tournament that the Ospreys have faced before. CMU holds the 0-1 advantage after the two teams met in 2007 at the UCF Invitational.
Radford (5-5) has two players averaging over three kills per set, Megan McWhorter with 3.29 and Emily Carlin with 3.14. Desiree Aramburu is tallying 9.5 assists per set and defensively, the Highlanders are led by Storm Melnick with 3.39 digs per set.
The Highlanders picked up a pair of wins last weekend at the DePaul Invitational with a 3-2 win over the host team and a 3-0 win over Georgia State.
This is the last non-conference tournament for the Ospreys before the team returns home to host Florida A&M on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
