JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team continues its seven game homestand with a single game against in-state rival USF. The game is slated for Wednesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium.
UNF enters the week after winning a series against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb. The Ospreys claimed the first two games of the series before dropping the final game. UNF won the first game 5-4 and took game two, 13-12. The Ospreys stumbled in the final game, dropping an 18-8 decision.
The Ospreys are 3-4 all-time against the Bulls, winning the only two games played between the two schools in Jacksonville. UNF is 1-4 all-time against USF in Tampa, dropping a 10-7 decision to the Bulls earlier this season on March 23.
Sophomore Andrew Karmeris led the charge for the Ospreys in the last game against USF, finishing the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored. He had a double in the contest to go along with a pair of singles. Junior Michael Smith collected a pair of hits in the game while driving in two runs.
Two other players also had two runs batted in the game against the Bulls. Freshman Ryan Roberson had a pinch-hit two-run home run in the ninth inning, while freshman Corey Bass recorded a two-RBI single in the first inning.
USF's senior left-hander Teddy Kaufman shook off a slow start to claim the victory against the Ospreys on March 23. UNF scored three runs in the first inning, but USF responded with eight unanswered runs and cruised to the 10-7 triumph. USF pitching combined for 13 strikeouts, while the Bulls' offense tallied 13 hits on the night with Junior Carlin leading the way with three hits and three RBI.
