
No. 62 UNF Downs JU, 6-1; Berkenbrock Finishes Regular Season with Unblemished Record

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 6-1 win over crosstown, Atlantic Sun rival Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys (18-2, 9-1 A-Sun) have already clinched the No. 2 seed for next week's 2010 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championships.
“For our first year as fully Division I eligible, I thought we had a fantastic season,” said head coach Rodrigo Puebla. “I am very proud of the way we finished the regular season.”
Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock concluded her undefeated run with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tatiana Soldatova at No. 1. Senior Raquel Castro recorded a win in her final home match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Iva Jaresova at No. 3.
“It was nice to have a win on Senior Day for Raquel,” Puebla said. “We are still playing a high level of tennis and Aline has really proved that she is one of the best players in the conference by going undefeated this season.”
At No. 4, junior Victoria Krook defeated Sara Londona, 6-2, 6-0. Krook ends the season with a 19-1 record on the season. Freshman Melanie Aguirre posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Carrero to improve to 12-4 at No. 5 on the season. Junior Lauren Holton swept Ronnie Spencer at No. 6 with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Holton improved to 17-1 in singles matches this season.
The Ospreys jumped out early over the Dolphins (10-11, 2-8 A-Sun), winning the doubles point to begin the match. Berkenbrock and Castro batted at the No. 1 before picking up the 9-8(5) win over the duo of Soldatova and Jaresova to secure the point for the Ospreys.
Holton and Krook shutout Londona and Spencer at No. 3 with an 8-0 score.
“It was a good win today,” said Puebla. “This win will give us confidence going into next week's conference tournament.”
UNF will be back on the court next week (April 15-17) at the 2010 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.
