JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams finished up day one of the UNF Spring Break Invitational.
In the running events freshman Jasmine Jackson finished second-place in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles. Jackson's time of 14.78 was fifth overall and she will await the finals in the 100m hurdles tomorrow.
Senior Charisma Anderson (12.08) won her heat just ahead of senior Anne Delbovo's personal best time of 12.32. Freshmen Bonnie Stratton (12.42) and Jennifer Smyth (12.62) and sophomore Keva Stephens all made the top nine to advance to Saturday's finals.
Junior SaLydia James and sprinter Calcote picked up five and four points for the Ospreys in the 400m with their times of 57.49 and 57.94, respectively. Sophomore Ava Rivera won the third heat of the 400m but was not able to reach the top eight finishing 15th out of the 36 competitors in the 400m.
The 4x100m relay team made up of Delbovo, James, Anderson and Jackson took second-place and broke UNF's school record with a time of 46.59. The men's 4x100m ran a time of 45.14 and would of finished third but were disqualified for passing the baton out of the exchange zone.
Freshman Anne Demi broke UNF's school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.09m. Tomorrow Demi will compete in the shot put, which is set to begin to start at noon.
Sophomore Kayla Mobley also recorded a higher mark than the previous record with a throw 33.17m. Senior Ashton McGuire who broke the hammer throw record last season scored a personal best with her throw of 32.95m. McGuire also posted a distance of 39.60m in the javelin, where she was able to finish in second-place. Finishing first in the javelin was former UNF athlete and current javelin school record holder, Emily Kohler (43.40m, UNF's javelin record).
Both freshmen Taylor Britton (3.95) and Michael David (3.80) scored six points for the Ospreys with their fifth and seventh-place finishes in the pole vault, respectively.
In the long jump senior Elise Trexler scored personal best 5.49m jump for a first place finish, while Smyth reeled in a sixth place finish, totaling 13 points for the Ospreys.
The last event of the day for the Ospreys was run by senior Sammy Palmer who finished just out of the top eight to gain any points for UNF. Palmer finished the 5000m ninth for a time of 15:15.61.
The Ospreys will begin the second day of the UNF Spring Break Invitational tomorrow with the start of the field events and the final running events at noon at Hodges Stadium.
