JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team hits the road for a midweek game against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. on Tuesday, March 30, at 6 p.m.
The Ospreys enter the week 14-12 overall after claiming an Atlantic Sun Conference series, 2-1, over Campbell. The Eagles enter the contest 14-11 overall.
UNF and GSU met earlier in the season with the Ospreys claiming a 14-3 victory on March 2, at Harmon Stadium.
In the game, UNF fell behind 1-0, but rallied to score 14 runs on the night to claim the 11-run victory.
Junior Robbie Collier picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound. Collier entered the game in the third inning in relief after starting pitcher Trey Ferrano left the game after being hit by a pitch. Collier scattered six hits over 5.2 innings, allowing just a pair of runs. He walked just three batters, while fanning five. Collier, who began the game as the designated hitter, helped his own cause with a two RBI single and a sacrifice hit.
Offensively, North Florida collected 17 hits, including five extra base hits. Five UNF players recorded multiple hits on the day with junior Michael Smith leading the way with four hits. Smith also scored two runs while driving in four runs.
Sophomore Andrew Karmeris added three hits, while seniors David Eldredge and Preston Hale and junior Sam Perry each had two hits apiece. Hale finished the game with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.
Georgia Southern leads the series 5-2. The Ospreys are 1-3 all-time in Statesboro, Ga., winning the first meeting in the series on the road 7-2 on Feb. 4, 2006.
