No. 64 UNF Sweeps USC Upstate, 7-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 64 ranked University of North Florida women's tennis team swept Atlantic Sun foe USC Upstate, 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex. The Ospreys improve to 16-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference while the Spartans fall to 10-3 and 4-2 in the league.
“This was a good conference win for us today,” said head coach Rodrigo Puebla. “It's always good to play at home and even better to win at home. We are really settling in and playing some of our best tennis of the season down the final stretch.”
The Ospreys grabbed the doubles point early, sweeping all three matches. Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock and senior Raquel Castro defeated Fracesca Vaderrama and Carolina Bello, 8-0 at No. 1.
In the No. 2 doubles, sophomore transfer Danielle Day and freshman Melanie Aguirre paired up to defeat Emilia Milovanovic and Simona Cacciuttolo with a score of 8-7(5). Juniors Lauren Holton and Victoria Krook downed Cinthy Lazaro and Anna Sofia Camberos, 8-0.
Berkenbrock remained undefeated on the season in the No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Valderrama. Castro grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bello at No. 2 while Day defeated Cacciuttolo 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Valderrama and Cacciuttolo are tied for 113th in the country in the ITA singles rankings.
In the No. 4 singles Krook defeated Milovanovic, 6-2, 6-4 and Aguirre had a 6-3, 7-5(4) victory over Lazaro. Holton also remained undefeated on the season, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Camberos at No. 6.
The Ospreys will host Campbell on Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m.
