UNF will honor a pair of seniors prior to the meet
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team will host its final regular season meet of the year as the Ospreys take on North Carolina A&T on Friday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at the UNF Aquatic Center. The meet will serve as Senior Day and UNF will honor seniors Krissy Harms and Emily Shaw prior to the meet.
“Senior Day is always a really sad day for me,” head coach Beth Harrell stated. “You coach these kids for four years and you get close to them and their families. Watching them go is hard. As each one leaves, you can never replace them. Their personality and what they bring to the team you can't replace. There is always a feeling of loss at the end of the season. We are looking forward to letting them swim the events they want to swim and showing them a good time in a meet against North Carolina A&T. We still have another meet with our seniors when we head to conference. We will be rooting for them to post lifetime-best swims at the end of their careers.”
During the last meet, North Florida picked up a pair of dual meet victories as the Ospreys defeated Florida Atlantic and Daytona State College. UNF downed Daytona State College 210-75, while picking up a 170-128 victory over FAU. The victory over the Owls was the first in program history.
The Ospreys recorded seven first place finishes on the day. Junior Lyn Ann Nelson won the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 500 free, while sophomore Amanda Anderson claimed first place in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. Junior Patricia Lanoue won the 200 butterfly. True freshman Julia Moomaw won the 3-meter diving event, while the relay team of freshman Kelsey Bobzien, junior Megan Boudreau, Shaw and Nelson took first in the 400 freestyle relay.
For their efforts, Nelson and Moomaw were named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week and CCSA Women's Diver of the Week, respectively.
UNF swam against the Aggies twice last season before meeting up at conference. The Ospreys opened up the 2008-09 season with a 90-59 victory over North Carolina A&T. UNF travelled to Greensboro three weeks later and returned home with a 97-64 victory over NCAT.
