
UNF Hosts Crosstown Rival JU for A-Sun Tournament Spot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With five seeds already clinched by league teams, the University of North Florida volleyball team will host crosstown rival Jacksonville on Friday, Nov. 12 for the final seed in the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at UNF Arena and is sponsored by Dunn Wellness Center.
With both teams defeating Campbell last weekend, the possible three way tie in the middle of the standings was eliminated leaving the final tournament spot open to the winner of Friday night's match. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season in the annual SunTrust River City Rumble “Battle for the Barrel”. JU won the point earlier in the season, edging the Ospreys, 3-2 at Swisher Gymnasium. Due to the changes in A-Sun policy the first meeting between the two teams was not considered a conference match.
Leading UNF (6-21, 3-6 A-Sun) is Paige Pridgeon with 3.85 kills per set. Jessica Catelano is adding 2.17 kills per set and has tallied a team-high 34 aces this season including a school-record tying seven against Campbell last weekend. Dagnija Medina is adding 1.91 kills per set and leads the team with 79 blocks on the year. Britt Claessens is putting up 8.75 assists per set. On the defensive side, Nicole Baran is tallying a 4.14 digs per set.
The Dolphins (14-15, 4-5 A-Sun) are led by Aidan Yeager with 2.72 kills per set. Brittany Lehman is adding 2.45 kills and Kathryn Kane is tallying 2.22 kills per set. Kendall Courtney is posting 9.93 assists per set. Defensively, Ashley August is averaging 3.73 digs per set and Alyssa Robertson has notched 86 blocks this season.
Friday's match will also mark senior night for the Ospreys as they honor outside hitter Jessica Catelano, outside hitter/right side Marshay Greenlee and defensive specialist Chelsea Rabe.
The winner of the match will claim the final spot in the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference tournament which will be held Nov. 18-20 and is hosted by Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla.
