FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team had a rough day on the road in its final Atlantic Sun Conference match of the season, falling to No. 23 Florida Gulf Coast, 6-0, at the FGCU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Ospreys kept the match close in the first half not allowing a goal until the 41st minute and entering halftime trailing by only one goal. The match got away from UNF in the second half, as the nationally ranked Eagles erupted for five goals and runaway with the victory.
North Florida could get very little going on offense, recording just six shots on the afternoon with three shots on goal. Ricky Lawrence led all Ospreys with two shots including a shot on goal. Enrique Haeussler and Aaron Levine each chipped in a shot on goal apiece. Adam O'Neill and Austin Doyle also added shots on the day.
Tyler Willets took the loss at goal for UNF. The true freshman recorded three saves on the day, but could not fend off the 22 shots by the Eagles, including nine shots on goal.
Florida Gulf Coast's Scott Harrison recorded the hat trick on the afternoon, scoring three goals on four shots. Harrison was credited with the match-winning goal.
Aside from Harrison, Cristian Raudales, Westin Vallentine and Ryan Price each recorded a goal apiece.
In the 41st minute of the match, Harrison took a cross from the right side of the box from Donovan Henry and sent the ball into the lower left of the box. The goal proved to be the match-winning goal as the Eagles were able to keep the Ospreys out of the net.
In the second half, Harrison scored back-to-back goals to put the hosts up 3-0 with just under 35 minutes remaining in the match. In the final 35 minutes of the match, the nationally ranked Eagles managed to increase the score with three additional goals to provide the final margin of victory.
North Florida will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 2, as the Ospreys travel to Orlando to take on UCF in a non-conference match. Kickoff for the match is slated for 1 p.m.
