
ETSU Men’s Soccer Edged UNF, 1-0

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Buccaneers used a first half goal to slip by the Ospreys, as both teams' defenses kept the second half scoreless.
North Florida recorded eight shots on the day, including two shots on goal. Comparatively, East Tennessee State took 11 shots with five shots on goal. UNF goalkeeper Andrew Calise took the hard luck loss on the afternoon. Calise recorded three saves on five shots on goal. The UNF defense also recorded a team save on the day.
Julian Botella, Enrique Haeussler and Ricky Lawrence each had a pair of shots on the day to lead the team. Botella and Lawrence each had a shot on goal.
Adam O'Neill and Austin Doyle each recorded shots on the day.
North Florida fell to 2-8-0 on the season and 1-4-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while East Tennessee State improved to 9-4-0 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play.
Neither team could manage to score in the first 40 minutes of the match. With five minutes remaining in the first half, ETSU's Colin Pugh took a pass from David Geno and slotted the ball past the keeper for what proved to be the only goal of the match.
In the second half, the Ospreys recorded seven shots while the Bucs took five shots. Both of North Florida's shots on goals occurred in the second half, however, the Ospreys' scoring opportunities were thwarted by the ETSU keeper.
North Florida returns to action Thursday, Oct. 21 as the Ospreys take on Mercer in a match at Hodges Stadium at 7 p.m.
