UNF Readies for 3rd Annual Jimmy Carnes Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After beginning its outdoor track and field season in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Challenge last weekend, the University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the third annual Gainesville Sports Commission (GSC) Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet this Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
There will be over 600 athletes competing in Sunday's events from universities such as Florida State,
The collegiate events will start Sunday at 9 a.m. in the O'Connell Center, which is a 200-meter, six lane, polyurethane track with wide sweeping turns. The track is most conducive to top performances in the 200m and the 500m sprints.

The Ospreys in the 2009 Jimmy Carnes Invitational had several outstanding performances last year. Sophomore middle distance runner, Brooke Baumann had the best finish of any Osprey, taking first in the mile by over five seconds. Senior Anne Delbovo set a UNF indoor record in the pole vault of 3.35m and set a personal best record for her third-place finish in the triple jump. Anderson scored her personal best in the 200m and the 55m. Sophomore Christina King also made it to the finals in the women's triple jump. Junior Will Pearce picked up a second-place finish in the 3k, after leading most of the race until being cut-off by a spectator.
The independent meet run by GSC is named after Jimmy Carnes, who has been a key contributor for track and field on the national and international level. Recently, Carnes was inducted into USA Track and Field's National Hall of Fame.
