
Women’s Basketball to Host Crosstown Rival JU on Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will host crosstown Atlantic Sun rival Jacksonville University on Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the second meeting of the two teams in the annual River City Rumble. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in a “Pack the House Challenge” in UNF Arena.
This is the second time the two teams have met in less than ten days. UNF (5-14, 2-8 A-Sun) fell to JU (5-13, 4-6 A-Sun), 64-58 in overtime at Swisher Arena on Monday, Jan. 18. Sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland had a career-high 25 points in the game while senior forward Arlande Cherizol pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds.
“We feel that we let a great opportunity slip through our hands at JU in the overtime game,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “Our team is really looking forward to the rematch.”
Ticket prices for the women's game are $10 for Adult/$8 for Youth 17-and-under and Senior Citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $5 and limited to one per student. Kirkland is leading the Ospreys on the season with 14.7 points per game while dishing out 3.79 assists per game. Junior guard Juliemay Syquio is tallying 8.5 points per game, and freshman forward Jadhken Kerr is adding 7.9 points per game. Cherizol is grabbing a team best 8.4 rebounds per game.
The Dolphins are led by Courtney Jackson with 10.7 points per game. Desarae Johnson is adding 9.7 points and pulling down a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game.
Following Wednesday's game, the Ospreys will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate at 3 p.m. in the Hodge Center.
