Women’s Soccer Goes Cross-Town to JU Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team (1-2) will head to an all too familiar setting this week traveling to the Ashley Sports Complex on the campus of Jacksonville University, but not to take on the Dolphins. The Ospreys will play in the Jacksonville University Tournament and take on Georgia Southern (0-3) on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m. and then Furman (2-0) on Sunday, Sept. 6, at noon.

Last weekend the Ospreys hosted the Osprey Classic that featured Jacksonville, Coastal Carolina and Georgia State with UNF losing 4-3 to Georgia State and defeating Coastal Carolina 4-0.

The Ospreys are first in goals per game (2.33), second in points (17), goals (7) and tied for assists (3) in the Atlantic Sun. In addition to the team's success on the field senior forward Katelin Swift was honored as the A-Sun Player of the Week. Swift is first in the A-Sun in points per game with 2.33. She is also second in goals scored (3) and freshman standout Michele Larrinaga is right behind, tied for third in the A-Sun with two.

Georgia Southern and UNF are 1-1 all-time. In their last meeting in 2006, the Ospreys downed the Eagles 2-1.

Furman trips to Jacksonville with two wins under its belts including a win against A-Sun conference member USC Upstate 3-0. In 2008 the Paladins had only two seniors on their roster going 14-6-2 overall, and like UNF, they have return nine starters from last year's team.
