A recent graduate from the University of Notre Dame, Hasan had competed with the Fighting Irish's track program for three seasons but missed her senior year due to an injury.
“I moved down here after graduation and I knew I had another year to run,” said Hasan. “I had trained at UNF previously and knew how beautiful the track was and was ready for a new environment.”
Hasan, who will be in graduate school at UNF and have one year of eligibility remaining, joins the Ospreys comes to UNF with a full list of accolades All-American honors.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with someone of Alyissa's caliber,” said Assistant Track Coach Julie Stackhouse. “We talked about the high goals we have for her individually and for the team, and our plan on competing at the NCAA Championships next year, the first year UNF will be eligible for a post-season birth. Alyissa will be the catalyst our team needs as we chase the A-Sun track title."
As a freshman at UND, Hasan made an immediate impact for the Fighting Irish, setting a school record (3,655 points) in the pentathlon. She would later place fourth at the BIG East Indoor Championship in the Pentathlon scoring 3,647 points on her way to helping the Fighting Irish win a team title.
During her junior year she helped the Irish in a major way, grabbing her first All-American and All-Big East honors. She notched All-Big East honors by finishing second in the pentathlon at the 2008 Big East Indoor Championships and took first place in the pentathlon with 4,105 points at the Alex Wilson Invitational. She later garnered All-American honors after recording 4,069 points in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, becoming Notre Dame's first-ever multi-event All-American.
As a junior she would clock a personal-best, running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds for a first-place finish at the Blue and Gold Invitational as well as wins in the long jump (5.87 meters) and high jump (1.71). Later she took second place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.64) at the Notre Dame Indoor Opener.
Through Hasan's junior year at Notre Dame, she maintained her ability to be successful at a wide range of events, which in turn made her exceptional at both the pentathlon and heptathlon events.
Hasan completed her 2007-08 season with a 23rd place showing (13.74 seconds) in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Mideast Regionals. She also finished 15th in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships.
The long resume of accomplishments that Hasan brings to the UNF program will cement her into a core group of athletes that have brought success to the Ospreys over the seasons.
“She has been successful at the national level in so many different events, she will be a true asset to our team in a number of ways,” said Stackhouse. “She will be looked to as a leader and mentor to a young team.”
