Ospreys head to Stetson for league action
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fresh off a monumental upset of a nationally-ranked top-15 foe, the University of North Florida baseball team will take the first of its final two Atlantic Sun Conference road trips this weekend when it visits Stetson for three games beginning Friday night.
In this weekend's three-day series, both teams will look to gain ground in the conference standings with UNF holding a two-game lead over the Hatters and sitting two spots ahead in the ranks. The Ospreys are tied for fifth with Lipscomb while Stetson holds the seventh slot. The two will square off at 7 p.m. Friday night, 7 p.m. Saturday night and 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Last time out (April 28), UNF controlled No. 11 Miami, limiting the Hurricanes to only four hits and one unearned run to complete a 10-1 upset. Leading the Ospreys' 15-hit barrage, senior Brian Wilson finished with four hits and three runs scored. Six Ospreys hurlers combined for eight strikeouts, and senior Ty Pryor notched three in one inning of work.
Stetson is coming off a pair of home mid-week wins against Bethune-Cookman and Florida International, which improved its home record to 11-16 and pushed its winning streak to four games. The Hatters dropped two straight A-Sun series before taking two of three at Campbell last weekend. This weekend, Stetson will be searching for its first home series win in A-Sun action. The set will be Stetson's fourth conference series at home this season.
UNF has taken four of their past five league series with the lone series loss coming at the hands of Lipscomb in the second weekend of April. The Ospreys have notched just one series win on the road in league play – that being a sweep of Campbell during a five-day road trip to Buies Creek, N.C., to end the month of March.
