Ospreys face No. 27 Georgia Southern, No. 22 Florida State
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida baseball team will have a tough challenge ahead of it this week with a pair of ranked non-conference foes.
The Ospreys will take on 27th-ranked Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Harmon Stadium, followed by a 6 p.m. matchup on Wednesday against No. 22 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla.
UNF will try to get its first official game in this season with GSU after a March 31 contest in Statesboro, Ga., between the teams was rained out. The Eagles held a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third before a flash of lightning delayed the game, which allowed the oncoming thunderstorm to set in and bring the contest to a halt.
The Ospreys are a perfect 1-0 this season in Tallahassee after upsetting the then-sixth-ranked Seminoles, 5-4, on March 4. Freshman Steve Hillan hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning, and senior RHP Ty Pryor shut down FSU in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to give the Ospreys a win over their highest-ranked Division I opponent in program history.
FSU defeated UNF last Wednesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 14-6, in the Ospreys' first-ever home meeting with the Seminoles. Four UNF errors gave the Seminoles six unearned runs.
UNF went 1-2 over the weekend against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb in Nashville. Senior RHP John Frawley pitched his fourth-straight complete win and second shutout of the year in a 1-0 UNF victory on Friday night. Lipscomb took control on Saturday, however, holding the Ospreys to a combined seven runs in a doubleheader sweep.
