Women finish in third overall
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After two days in second place, the Osprey women finished strong, taking third place overall, just behind Troy and meet-hosts Florida State. The event was a success for both men and women, with athletes posting great results all three days. Today was no exception.
Laura Ragland and Brooke Baumann finished in second and third, respectively, in the 1500m, finishing just one second apart.
The men were led by Cameron Dickerson, who finished third in the 800m. Kayla Conrad took fifth overall in the 800m, followed by teammates Evelyn Moore and Sianne Chong in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The team of Anne DelBovo, SaLydia James, Keva Stephens and Charisma Anderson took fourth in the 4x100m relay. In the 1600m sprint medley the team of Keva Stephens, Ava Rivera, Alicen Livingston and Sianne Chong also took fourth.
Other Ospreys also found success today, including Elise Trexler, who took third in the high jump with her 1.60m leap. In the men's 1500m, Mike Strasser finished fourth. Rachel Stanley took ninth in the 100m hurdles.
Over the three days of the meet, the Ospreys had some moments that they are sure to remember. Will Pearce's second place finish in the 5000m was a less-than-ideal situation: Pearce crossed the finish line with only one of his shoes. The same day, Rachel Stanley set a new record for the 400m hurdles with her time of 1:04.24.
According to coach Julie Stackhouse, the meet was a difficult one for everyone, with frequent rain interrupting events, destroying momentum and causing the team to have to skip several events. Stachouse said that the team still overcame adversity to compete.
Stackhouse concluded with some thoughts on the future of the team. "We are really looking forward to the meet at Duke (the Duke Invitational) to see how many of our athletes will qualify for the Penn relays. It will be many of our players first time at Duke and it will definitely be a new experience."
