Ospreys will return to action on Tuesday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida baseball team had a tough time battling the wind and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, as the Ospreys allowed three home runs in an 8-2 loss at Harmon Stadium.
Senior center fielder Brian Wilson led UNF (6-12, 1-5 Atlantic Sun Conference) once again the plate, going 2-for-4. Sophomore shortstop Sam Perry had a two-run home run, which was his second career round-tripper.
Senior RHP Ty Pryor (2-3) got off to a quick and solid start in the first inning, getting FGCU's Steven Wickens to fly out and Josh Upchurch to strike out. Two at-bats later, a costly error by Perry prolonged the inning, which set the table for a three-run homer by FGCU's Brad Roberts.
Roberts homered again in the top of the third to extend FGCU's lead. The Ospreys were able to put something together in the bottom of the fifth when Thompson reached on an error by Wickens, which allowed Perry hit his bomb to left center, cutting the Eagles' lead to 5-2.
But FGCU added three more runs in the top of the sixth on a three-run homer by Tim Roberson. Junior LHP John Atteo was able to shut down the Eagles the rest of the way, however the Ospreys weren't able to get anything going and mustered just two hits in the last three innings.
Atteo allowed just three hits in 3.1 innings of work. Pryor struck out four in 4.0 innings of work and was credited with the loss. Three of his four allowed runs were unearned.
The Ospreys will return to action for a two-game non-conference series with Florida International in Miami, Fla., beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
