Mississippi Valley State forfeits to UNF

OXFORD, MISS. – The University of North Florida softball team warmed up, waited around in a mist and cold rain and temperatures that hovered in the 30s only to learn that Mississippi Valley State refused to take the field in what turned out to be the final game of the Red and Blue Classic, played at Ole Miss.

The game ended in a forfeit, giving the Lady Ospreys (6-14) a 1-1 record at the event. UNF was scheduled to play two games on Saturday and one on Sunday after having its second game of the tournament rained out Friday. Those games will not take place, however, because of slowly declining weather conditions in the Oxford area.

UNF will return home to Jacksonville where it will ready itself for a non-conference doubleheader Thursday at 4 p.m. against Georgia Southern before opening conference play Saturday against Campbell at 2 p.m.
