The Ospreys got a career high 19 points from sophomore forward Matt Sauey and freshman forward Andy Diaz chipped in 13. Sauey shot 7-9 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line, while Diaz was 6-8 from the field. Senior guard Stan Januska pulled down a career high 12 rebounds, freshman forward David Jeune a career high nine and Haugabrook a career high eight. Freshman guard Jerron Granberry dished out a career high five assists.
North Florida shot 47.1 percent (24-51) from the field and held Palm Beach Atlantic to just 37.3 percent (22-59). The Ospreys shot 31.3 percent (5-16) from behind the arc and 56.5 percent (13-23) from the free throw line. The Sailfish shot 25 percent (4-16) from 3-point range and 50 percent (11-22) from the line. Chris Joseph led
Despite shooting 59 percent from the field in the first half,
Sauey led UNF with 10 points in the first half as head coach Matthew Driscoll used 10 players liberally with no player playing more than 14 minutes.
“Obviously a great win at home, coming back after Christmas break and coming back after being on the road for 10 days, getting back in the facility and getting a feel for the surroundings so to speak,” said Driscoll. “I really thought our guys responded at halftime and really came out in the second half with a purpose. I thought we did some good things in stretches. I don't think we completed the deal. I do think we handled ourselves with great humility. I thought we were very humble. We shared the ball with 19 assists on 24 made buckets. I think that says a lot for your team. We rebounded the ball very well tonight with a lot of guys getting career-highs. Our field goal percentage defense was definitely where it needs to be, but again we have room to improve. We have not played what you would call a perfect game or a complete game or a game that we are just walking off the floor feeling like we really peaked, not even when we were in Mississippi. Tomorrow we will get back to work and obviously the stakes go up. Things are obviously much more important in league play. We are 0-2 in the league and the only way to go to the conference tournament and play for the conference championship, you have to take care of your home court and you have to win some games on the road. We have two at home coming up and we'll start with Kennesaw State. It will start tomorrow at 11 a.m. when we lift weights.”
