
Volleyball to Wrap Up Season at Home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will conclude the 2009 season with a pair of home contests. On Friday, Nov. 13 the Ospreys will host Mercer in a 7 p.m. match followed by a 3 p.m. match against Kennesaw State at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be in UNF Arena.
Leading the Ospreys (10-18, 4-14 A-Sun) is junior middle blocker Kaley Read with 3.82 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon is adding 2.91 kills per set while senior Agata Dawidowicz is posting 1.99 kills. Junior setter Jessica Catelano is averaging 9.14 assists per set and freshman libero Nicole Baran is notching 2.69 digs per set.
For Mercer (10-17, 8-10 A-Sun) Rachel Urbelis and Amiee Frutchey are both averaging 2.49 kills per set. Kirsta Hurley is adding 2.46 kills and Libby Hansch is averaging 2.04 kills per set. Setters Chelsea Gebben and Nickie Halbert are averaging 5.76 and 4.83 assists per set, respectively. On the defensve side Charlotte Harris is averaging 4.72 digs per set and Ashley Skidmore is averaging 4.10 digs.
North Florida holds the 8-3 all-time advantage over Mercer, but the Bears picked up the 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-23) win over the Ospreys earlier this season in Macon, Ga. Pridgeon led UNF with 16 kills and Read had 12. Hurley tallied 13 kills for the Bears.
Kennesaw State (16-10, 10-8 A-Sun) is led by Asjia Stokes with 3.43 kills per set. Sabrita Gulley is adding 3.29 kills per set while Chelsey Denesha is averaging 2.45 kills. Rachael Albright and Ginny Frederick are averaging 5.84 and 4.69 assists per set, respectively. Selina O'Leary is tallying 3.97 digs per set for the defense.
UNF has a 3-2 advantage over KSU in the all-time series. The Owls picked up the 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-16) win over the Ospreys earlier in the season at Kennesaw. Junior outside hitter Danielle Lerch led the Ospreys with 12 kills. Gulley had 15 kills for the Owls.
Single-game tickets for volleyball matches are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $3 and limited to one per student.
