
UNF Volleyball Takes to the Road for a Pair of A-Sun Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida will take to the road this weekend for matches against Atlantic Sun foes Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. UNF will face FGCU on Friday, Oct. 16 for a 7 p.m. contest at Alico Arena. On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Ospreys will play Stetson at 5 p.m. in the Edmunds Center.
Leading the Ospreys (8-12, 3-8 A-Sun) is junior middle blocker Kaley Read with 3.67 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon is tallying 2.92 kills per set while recording a team-high 2.52 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Danielle Lerch is adding 2.88 kills per set and junior setter Jessica Catelano is notching 9.43 assists per set. Freshman libero Nicole Baran is averaging 2.46 digs per set.
FGCU (10-7, 9-2 A-Sun) is led by Jelena Simic with 3.59 kills per set. Anna Wagner is adding 2.69 kills while Emma Racila and Jacqueline Cowden are posting 2.44 and 2.42 kills per set, respectively. Chandra Lefever is notching 10.05 assists per set and Holly Youngquist is averaging 3.94 digs per set for the defense.
UNF and FGCU played a close five set match earlier in the season at UNF Arena. The Eagles picked up the 3-2 victory, winning 22-25, 19-25, 34-32, 26-24, 15-12. Read and Lerch had 23 kills each while Pridgeon added 22 in the first meeting this season. Catelano had a season-best 68 assists for the Ospreys. Simic and Cowden both posted 20 kills for the Eagles.
Stetson's (1-17, 0-11 A-Sun) Stephanie Canfield is leading the Hatters with 1.82 kills per set. Kellie Carneal is adding 1.69 kills per set and Kaylee Ream is posting 1.67. Carneal is also tallying 5.53 assists per set while Anna Becker is putting up 2.72 digs per set.
Earlier in the season UNF defeated Stetson, 3-2 at UNF Arena with scores of 24-26, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10, 17-15. Read had 23 kills in the first meeting, while Lerch added 22 and Pridgeon tallied 14. Sophomore setter Julie Fye had 43 assists.
