JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team is set to battle crosstown Atlantic Sun rival Jacksonville University on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in a 7 p.m. match at UNF Arena.
The match will be the third of 20 contests between the two schools in the annual SunTrust River City Rumble. UNF and JU will compete in every sport offered by both schools throughout the season. A winner is determined by which school wins the most out of the 20 events played during the season. The Ospreys will look to take the lead in the Rumble after the men's soccer team evened the score at 1-1 with a 2-1 victory on the road on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Leading the Ospreys (8-11, 3-7 A-Sun) is junior middle blocker Kaley Read with 3.78 kills per set. Junior outside hitter Danielle Lerch is adding 2.90 kills per set while freshman Paige Pridgeon is adding 2.81 kills as well as a team-best 2.51 digs per set. Junior setter Jessica Catelano is tallying 9.36 assists per set. Freshman libero Nicole Baran is posting 2.42 digs per set.
For the Dolphins (12-5, 8-2 A-Sun) Aidan Yeager is averaging 3.31 kills per set. Brooke Singleton is averaging 2.83 kills while Brittany Lehman is adding 2.49 kills per set. Hannah Munneke is tallying 7.68 assists per set. On the defensive side, Shelly Walroth is averaging 5.36 digs while Nicki Kent posts 1.16 blocks per set.
“We are starting to come together as a team and have begun to play more consistently together,” said UNF head volleyball coach Kevin Campbell. “Multiple hitters are producing. Our defense is coming together and we're really starting to gel as a team. I'm looking forward to taking that into tomorrow's match against JU, who has been playing really good volleyball lately.”
The two teams met earlier this season on Sept. 16 at JU. The Dolphins picked up the 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) win. Pridgeon notched 11 kills in the match for the Ospreys. Yeager led the Dolphins with seven kills.
Single-game tickets for volleyball matches are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $3 and limited to one per student.
