
Volleyball Hits the Road for a Pair of A-Sun Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will take to the road this weekend for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches. The Ospreys will face Kennesaw State on Friday, Oct. 2, in a 7 p.m. match at the KSU Convocation Center. On Saturday, Oct. 3, UNF will face Mercer at 3 p.m. in University Center.
The Ospreys (7-7, 2-4 A-Sun) are coming off a 3-2 non-conference win over Florida A&M on Tuesday. Leading UNF this season are junior outside hitters Kaley Read and Danielle Lerch. Read is averaging 4.09 kills per set and ranks second in the A-Sun while Lerch is posting 2.98 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon is adding 2.53 kills per set. Junior setter Jessica Catelano is averaging 9.64 assists per set, while on the defenisive side Pridgeon, Read and freshman libero Nicole Baran are leading with 2.41, 2.35 and 2.02 digs per set, respectively.
Kennesaw State (7-6, 2-4 A-Sun) is being led by Asjia Stokes with 3.61 kills per set. Sabrita Gulley is adding 3.13 kills per set while Chelsey Denesha is putting up 2.02. Rachael Albright is tossing in 5.48 assists per set while Ginny Frederick is adding 4.80. On the defensive side, Selina O'Leary is averaging 3.75 digs per set.
UNF leads the all-time series 3-1. Last season the Ospreys swept the Owls. Read averaged 3.29 kills in the two matches while senior outside hitter Agata Dawidowicz added 3.0 kills per set.
Leading Mercer (3-10, 1-5 A-Sun) is Amiee Frutchey with 2.43 kills per set. Krista Hurley is adding 2.41 while Rachel Urbelis is putting up 2.19 kills per set. Chelsea Gebben and Nickie Halbert are averaging 5.63 and 4.28 assists per set, respectively. Ashley Skidmore is leading the defensive side with 4.29 digs per set.
North Florida holds the all-time record over the Bears at 8-2. The two teams split last season with each winning on their own home courts. Read tallied 4.0 kills per set in the two meetings and Dawidowicz added 2.2 kills per set.
