Ospreys to take on No. 2 North Carolina
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Fresh off a thrilling series victory over cross-town rival Jacksonville, the University of North Florida baseball team will now take on a giant task - trying to down the two-time national runner-up and second-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNF will take on powerhouse UNC at 6 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday in Cary, N.C., at the USA Baseball National Training Facility. The Tar Heels' on-campus stadium, Boshamer Stadium, is currently undergoing a renovation.
The Ospreys took two of three from JU over the weekend at Harmon Stadium, helping UNF clinch the SunTrust Old Wooden Barrel for the second-straight year. Senior Travis Martin led the Ospreys at the plate, going 8-for-11 with five RBIs, five runs scored and a home run. Senior T.J. Gaudy racked up six RBIs.
UNC won two of three from Florida State over the weekend, including a 2-1 10-inning win on Sunday. The Tar Heels have five players on the Wallace Watch list for the Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award and are led by top hitters Dustin Ackley, Tim Fedroff and Kyle Seager, who all rank among the top six hitters in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The combo has combined for 50 doubles, 24 home runs and 141 RBIs.
