UNF wins doubles point on Thursday, falters in singles on Friday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The weather finally broke and allowed the women's tennis match between North Florida and Stetson to be completed on Friday afternoon - with disappointing results for UNF.
Stetson rallied from a 1-0 deficit after losing Thursday's doubles competition to win five of the six singles matches on Friday and take a 5-2 victory over the Lady Ospreys in the Atlantic Sun Conference matchup.
After getting wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles on Thursday before the rains came, UNF (5-6, 3-1 A-Sun) was hoping to finish strong on Friday and remain undefeated in A-Sun play. Only Carolina Melo was able to capture a singles win for the Lady Ospreys, however. She posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stetson's Catherine Canady at the No. 6 position.
The Hatters (5-5, 4-0 A-Sun) took the other five matchups in straight sets.
UNF will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Fort Myers to face A-Sun newcomer Florida Gulf Coast. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
