UNF wins for fourth time in five matches, improves to 4-1 in A-Sun
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team won for the fourth time in five matches and improved to 4-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 5-2 win over A- Sun newcomer Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
Sunday's match was delayed a day by inclement weather in the Fort Myers area.
The Lady Ospreys (6-6) grabbed the doubles point with wins at the bottom two positions, getting an 8-0 victory from Vanessa Sanchez and Ina Durcakova at No. 2 and an 8-6 win from Maria Melihova and Victoria Krook at No. 3.
In singles action, Natalia Sanchez (No. 1), Melihova (No. 2), Krook (No. 5) and Carolina Melo (No. 6) posted victories to help the Lady Ospreys win for the fourth time in their last five matches. Florida Gulf Coast (3-7, 0-4 A-Sun) got wins from Maria Maggiorini over Vanessa Sanchez at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) and by Jordan Vaughn over Ina Durcakova at No. 4 (7-5, 7-6).
UNF returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Lamar at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
