UNF looking for strong fall finish
After a couple of rough weeks, the University of North Florida golf team will try to finish the fall on a strong note at the Jerry Pate National Collegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
That won't be an easy task, however, as the Ospreys must contend with a field that includes two top-10 teams and another top-20 squad.
UNF finished 13th in last week's Gridiron Classic after finishing 10th at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate two weeks earlier.

Notables: This week's trip to Birmingham is the second stop in the city for the Ospreys this year after UNF competed in the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Sept. 22-23 … this will be the second-straight par 70 layout UNF has played this year … the Ospreys have only played two par 72 layouts in their five fall tournaments … freshman Joe Byun has only been out of UNF's top two once this year and has not been out of the team's top three at its first four tournaments … Byun has two top-20 finishes on the year, with his worst finish being a tie for 42nd … UNF has started at least one freshman in its lineup the last four seasons … that trend will continue this week at the Jerry Pate National Collegiate, where Byun and J.C. Horne are both guaranteed spots in the lineup … Jacob Davidson and Jordan Gibb are both out this week with wrist injuries … the state of Indiana was not kind to the Ospreys this year with the team finishing 11th at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Bloomington, Ind., before finishing tied for 13th at the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind.Â
Quotable:
Coach Scott Schroeder on this week's tournament:
"Coming off of the tournament at Notre Dame, we are going to face a different type of golf course this week. This is a course we are excited about because there are a lot more opportunities to make birdies. It's fun to play a course like that and hopefully it will help our confidence. This tournament is important to us to have a good finish to our fall and take a good attitude into our conditioning for the spring."
Junior J.C. Horne on the state of his game:
"My game is at its peak right now and I am playing better than I ever have. I am coming off a good summer and have learned how to play the game better. I have been working hard since we retuned from Notre Dame and I really feel that I am ready to win a college golf tournament."
Horne on the UNF team's fall campaign
"There is a lot of talent on this team and I am not sure why we are not finishing higher in tournaments right now. We just need to all make sure we are working hard so we will be prepared for the spring."
