Ospreys make short turnaround travel to face Bucs on Sunday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Talk about kicking a team when its down.
The University of North Florida men's basketball team will try to bounce back from its heartbreaking loss Friday night to USC Upstate by squaring off with the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion East Tennessee State Buccaneers in a Sunday afternoon matchup in Johnson City.
The irony is that both teams were in Jacksonville on Friday night - the Ospreys taking on USC Upstate (a 53-52 loss by UNF) and the Bucs to take on league- leader Jacksonville (an 83-77 win by ETSU). Both teams made the three-state trek during the day Saturday in order to play Sunday's game at ETSU.
UNF has lost three of its six conference games by five points or less - and led within the final 30 seconds in two of them, including Friday's heartbreaker against the Spartans. In that game, UNF led 52-50 lead but couldn't hold on - watching Upstate's Jeremy Byrd drive the length of the floor for a game-tying layup and a foul with 17 seconds to play. He sank the free throw, and the Ospreys couldn't answer at the other end in losing their 15th consecutive game.
