Virginia over Lady Ospreys

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Three Lady Ospreys (6-16) scored in double figures,
but it wasn't enough for the University of North
Florida women's basketball team, as it fell 90-57 to
Virginia (14-10) on Tuesday night.
Virginia got off to an early lead and controlled the
boards, outrebounding UNF 50-24, while cashing in
21 points from the free throw line in 23 opportunities.
"We couldn't slow down their transition in the first
half and that led to easy points," UNF head coach
Mary Tappmeyer said. "We have a young team and I
think they were a little star struck by the arena and
playing an ACC team. It took them a while to realize
they could compete."
Jennifer Bowen scored in double figures for the fourth
game in a row, finishing tied for a team high with
Denisia Andrews with 11 points. Cecilia Woolfolk
followed them with 10 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots
from the field.
Two Cavaliers finished the night with double-doubles.
Lyndra Littles Scored 18 points and pulled down 11
rebounds, while Siedah Williams had 13 points and 10
boards. Every Virginia starter scored in double
figures, led by Monica Wright who finished the
contest with 20 points.
Virginia started strong, outscoring UNF 28-8 in the
first 10 minutes of play to help it build a 49-23 lead
at the half. Sharnee Zoll led the Cavaliers with 10
points, while Brenna McGuire hit a pair of 3-pointers
for six of her eight points in the half.
Bowen and Tamara Hubbard hit back-to-back 3-
pointers in the final minutes of the half to help cut
into the Virginia advantage. Bowen led the Lady
Ospreys with seven points in the half, while Jennifer Guldager had four points and a pair of offensive
rebounds.
Guldager finished tied for a team high with Shennette Sheffield, each pulling down five rebounds. Sheffield
added nine points and a pair of blocks to her totals.
UNF picked up the offensive pace in the second half
of play, shooting 38.9 percent from the field, while
scoring 34 points.
The Lady Ospreys had five steals and 12 turnovers,
compared to four Virginia steals and 17 turnovers.
The SunTrust River City Rumble resumes on Saturday
when Jacksonville travels to UNF for a 2 p.m.
