SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The University of North Florida men's basketball team will cap its two-game swing through frigid Indiana with a game at Big East Conference power Notre Dame on New Year's Eve. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET in South Bend.
UNF will play its final non-conference warmup against the Fighting Irish before opening Atlantic Sun Conference play against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson later in the week at UNF Arena.
Monday's game will mark a homecoming of sorts for UNF head coach Matt Kilcullen, who spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame under former Fighting Irish skipper Digger Phelps (1985-91). During Kilcullen's career at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish advanced to five NCAA Tournaments and posted four 20-win seasons.
The Ospreys are coming off a disappointing loss to IPFW on Saturday, when a 5-for-28 effort from behind the 3-point arc doomed the team in an 82-59 loss to the Mastodons. UNF shot just 37 percent for the game, thanks in part to a 26 percent effort in the first half which helped dig them into a 40-19 hole at halftime.
